WTIP Community Radio receives DNR Fire Media Award

GRAND MARAIS, Minn. August 21, 2007—WTIP has been selected as a Department of Natural Resources Fire Media Award recipient.

The DNR issued Fire Media and Cooperator’s Awards this year in order “to thank those people or groups that help us during fire season.” The DNR issued awards in both the Media and Cooperator categories and solicited nominations from the public.

WTIP was nominated for being media “that go the extra mile” and was described as being “the heart, soul and voice of the Gunflint Trail community during the Ham Lake wildfire in May 2007.”

DNR Fire officer Jeff Edmunds presented the award to WTIP station manager Deb Benedict at the Seagull-Sag Homeowner’s meeting on Saturday, August 18th. “This award illustrates the strong communication and cooperation that WTIP has with organizations” says Benedict. “These relationships are necessary in order to serve the public by getting information out in a timely, accurate, and consistent manner.”
