What's Real: We Listen to Teens

Jazz 88 may be best known as the Twin Cities source for great jazz music. But the Minneapolis Ampers station also has a passion for mentoring youth (student announcers perfom on the air during school days) and listening to their stories.

What's Real is a Jazz 88 series that highlights the stories that are important to high school students.

Listening to Teens

You can learn a lot by listening to teens.

For several years, KFAI in Minneapolis has been teaching high school students how to produce radio stories as part of their Youth News Initiative. Sure, these teenagers improve their writing and interviewing skills. And they learn how to use high-tech recorders and editing tools.

But we can learn too. All we have to do is listen.
