You Can't Fake This Kind of Quality

Thanks to the MN Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund, at 91.7 KAXE in Grand Rapids we have access to lots of programming from other independent community radio stations across the state. The Phenology Show has been on KAXE for over 26 years and we've been airing pieces from WTIP in Grand Marias regularly on the program, and it's done nothing but enhance the experience. Molly Hoffman is a volunteer producer at WTIP. Each week, she takes a look at a different bird from the northwoods.

Moose calves

If you want to see a moose calf in the wild, now is the time to look. Late spring is the time when moose calves are born. In this interview with WTIP in Grand Marais, Chel Anderson of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources tells us that moose calves are the fastest growing mammals in North America, growing at a rate of two to three pounds per day. And amazingly enough, calves sometimes learn to swim within a week of being born. The story is here.
