If you want to see a moose calf in the wild, now is the time to look. Late spring is the time when moose calves are born. In this interview with WTIP in Grand Marais, Chel Anderson of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources tells us that moose calves are the fastest growing mammals in North America, growing at a rate of two to three pounds per day. And amazingly enough, calves sometimes learn to swim within a week of being born. The story is here. We also have dozens of other phenology stories in our Nature section.
