In this modern media age of quick content and tweet-sized info, it's harder and harder to find good information and stories that give you time to listen, think and enjoy. Some topics go way beyond bumper sticker slogans and soundbites, but if those presenting the information don't give it the time it deserves then we all are underserved. That's why the independent community AMPERS stations are so cool. We don't fit any labeled format or presentation.
Here is a perfect example: http://bit.ly/d0iDrO
Last week on RealGoodWords, 91.7 KAXE Outreach Producer Heidi Holtan interviewed Maureen Gibbon about her compelling new book "Thief". Having survived rape in her teens, Suzanne goes to Northern Minnesota in the summer to escape. She befriends a convicted rapist which brings an entirely new perspective to her life.
The interview is awesome — and I mean awesome in the truest sense of the word. When I heard it, my inner flutter of thoughts and concerns was silenced and I listened very closely; absorbed, consumed, thoughtful. While dealing with a very serious topic, the book and conversation bring the story very close to home.
By the way, if you're into books you can follow Heidi on Twitter: http://twitter.com/kaxeheidi
